Official Charity
Each year Olympia has an official charity which it supports during the show. This year is no exception and we are delighted to announce that the International League for Protection of Horses is the official charity for 2007.
The ILPH will have presence throughout the show in the form of running the Shopping Drop Off where you can leave any bulky shopping in return for a small donation. The charity will also have a presence in the arena during the show performance.
The Centenary Gala Evening on Monday 17th December also specifically supports the work that the ILPH does. 50p from every ticket sale for that evening will be donated to the ILP, so not only will you enjoy a truly spectacular night out, but it also will be for a worthy cause.
The International League for the Protection of Horses (ILPH)
Every day thousands of horses around the world suffer. Some travel for days in overcrowded lorries to slaughter, some work until they drop to feed their poverty-stricken owner's families in the Developing World, some starve through uncaring neglect in an English shed.
The ILPH is the one of the world's leading international equine welfare charities, and improves the lives of many of these horses. Their political campaigners, international training teams, UK Field Officers and Rehabilitation Centres are all working towards the vision of a world where the horse is used but never abused.
Ten years after its foundation in 1927 the ILPH achieved its original objective of stopping the export of British horses for slaughter. It continues to help horses now and in the future by improving horse welfare legislation at UK and European level.
In the Developing World they teach local people horse care skills and then give the best students the knowledge and tools to teach others. This improves the general welfare of horses and donkeys in the area and as these animals make a valuable contribution to the economy in many communities it benefits humans as well.
In the United Kingdom the ILPH runs four Recovery and Rehabilitation Centres. The aim is to rehabilitate the abused and neglected horses that are admitted to its centres and then pass them on to caring homes so that they can return to an active life.
The ILPH relies totally on the support of the general public to continue its work. If you would like more information please contact 01953 498682, write to ILPH, Anne Colvin House, Snetterton, Norfolk NR16 2LR or visit www.ilph.org
